Issue 043

Welcome back to E&O Wednesdays, the enrollment-focused digital health newsletter from Exits & Outcomes — for paying subscribers only. This every-other-Wednesday issue digs into digital health companies that sell to self-insured employers as well as others that rely on enrollment-based distribution for their digital health programs.

Big employer benefits stacks: AmerisourceBergen and Analog Devices

Digital health companies love to boast how many Fortune 500 customers they have. This recurring feature of E&O Wednesdays digs into a couple of Fortune 500s’ (or similarly-sized employers’) digital health stacks. So far, in past Wednesdays issues, I’ve written about the digital health benefits stacks of dozens of big companies. This searchable, sortable database over at the E&O site sums up the benefits stacks of more than 40 BigCos. Or, click any of the BigCo names below to read the newsletter that featured a full write-up for each:

This week I dug into the benefits stacks of two big companies: AmerisourceBergen and Analog Devices. AmerisourceBergen is actually a Fortune 10 since it ranked as the 10th biggest company in the US in the 2022 list from Fortune. AB also made headlines this summer for its new digital therapeutics platform.

Here are the digital health benefits that AB offers its employees along with the language the employer uses to describe them:

Sharecare for wellness screening and incentives

“AmerisourceBergen has partnered with Sharecare to help you live your happiest, healthiest and most productive life. When you create a myWellbeing account… you’ll have access to numerous wellness resources to help keep your mind and body strong. Plus, when you complete five eligible activities, you can earn up to a $400 premium discount on your 2024 medical plan. Get the support you need on your wellness journey — whether you’re just beginning or if you’re looking for support along the way!”

Included Health for care navigation, second opinions, virtual urgent care and more

It looks like AB tapped Included Health for the company’s full suite of services. Some of them are available now but the partnership looks to be expanding to include urgent virtual care starting in January:

“Available Now:

  • Get matched to a top in-network doctor
  • Get a second opinion from a world-class specialist
  • Get expert answers to all your healthcare questions

Starting January 1st:

  • Get 24/7 urgent care for everything from UTIs to pinkeye
  • See a therapist when and where you’re comfortable
  • Connect to online care anytime, anywhere—all on your phone”

More virtual visit options: While they’re featured less prominently in the benefits marketing materials, virtual visits are also offered via the health insurance companies behind some of the plans that AB offers employees. Both Cigna and HMSA pitch their apps as ways to have a virtual visit with a provider for a co-pay.

New for 2022: Maven for new and expecting parents

“AmerisourceBergen employees and their partners will soon have free, unlimited access to Maven’s best-in-class digital healthcare platform to help navigate preconception, pregnancy and postpartum; fertility treatment, including IVF, IUI and egg freezing; adoption; surrogacy; and returning to work after parental leave.”

Teladoc’s myStrength (via ComPsych Corp.) for behavioral health

“…program partners with myStrength to offer interactive behavioral health tools and resources to help you tackle common issues such as stress, depression, anxiety and insomnia, anywhere—anytime. This user-friendly digital program is quick, easy and effective. Based on clinical models like cognitive behavioral therapy, positive psychology and motivational interviewing, the myStrength platform has helped thousands of people to improve and sustain their health and well-being.”

Hinge Health for pain and remote physical therapy

“Physical Therapy. Without leaving your home. No copays. No office visits. Reduce your back and joint pain in just 15 minutes a day. So you can take the stairs, go hiking, run errands—and everything in between.”

RethinkCare for kids behavioral health

“RethinkCare is offered at no cost to you and gives your family 24/7 access to tools and resources to help you and your care team in understanding, teaching and better communicating with your child. This program specializes in helping care for children with learning, social or behavioral challenges.”

Livongo for weight loss, diabetes, hypertension and more

AB offers Teladoc’s various Livongo programs via a contract with Express Scripts. Beyond Livongo’s three core programs, it also offers a Diabetes Plus program that combines all three plus other programs like “health experts” and “personalized plans,” according to one flyer designed for AB employees.

Active & Fit for an exercise video library, gym discounts, plus health coaching for stress and weight loss

“Did you know the Active&Fit Direct program can pair you with a certified health coach to support you on your journey, wherever it may lead? Enjoy quick phone or video sessions on your schedule to help with stress management, achieve fitness and nutrition goals, and more!” “You’ll have access to: 11,600+ standard gyms for $25/mo*; 7,600+ on-demand workout videos accessible at home or on-the-go; Membership options for your spouse**; No other fees and no long-term contracts”

OK, let’s move on to the relatively sparse digital health benefits that Analog Devices offers its employees.

New in 2022: Switched from Teladoc/Best Doctors to Accolade’s 2nd.MD

After using Teladoc’s Best Doctors as its second opinions services for many years via its (almost a decade-long) relationship with Castlight Health, Analog Devices switched to Accolade-owned 2nd.MD in 2022.

UnitedHealthcare for virtual visits and other online tools

Analog Devices also points employees to United’s app, myuhc, and site for virtual visits and other unnamed online tools. Yep — that’s it. ADI does offer Alight for its personal health advocates services. It also has an EAP through a company named KGA. But the two blurbs above cover the only digital health-related benefits ADI employees have. So, that’s a wrap on AmerisourceBergen’s and Analog Device’s very different benefits stacks. Which BigCos should E&O dig into next? Hit reply if you have a suggestion.
